Hi, I'm Delia!

I have always enjoyed writing. At school, my best friend and I would regularly compete against each other for our stories to be read out in class! Then later on in life, a neighbour and friend posted a hilarious poem about me through my letterbox. Of course I felt challenged to reciprocate! And so, another literary battle began! Who could write the funniest poem AND in the quickest timeframe! I quickly realised how much I loved playing with words and especially making them rhyme.

I went on to write poems about my life, my feelings, and my experiences. But something was missing. That’s when I chanced upon a tweet on twitter for an online picture book course with Curtis  Brown. Then dismissing the many negative thoughts, I booked my place! And was I glad I did! I learnt so much during the six-week course, made some lovely writing friends and ended up with my very first picture book, which much to my surprise received promising feedback from Karl Newson!

In 2019, I wrote a cautionary tale for children who are constantly glued to their mobile phones. The piece was performed by the ShadowBoxer Theatre Company for the VAULT festival, London, and later made into a short film. And in 2020 I graduated from the Golden Egg Academy.

I love a competition and in 2021 I was longlisted for the WriteMentor Picture Book Award and shortlisted for their short story competition. I also received an honourable mention for my entry to the 2021 SpringFlingKidlit contest in the 'Awesomely Original' category.

I am always looking to further develop my craft and have completed courses with Clare Helen-Welsh at WriteMentor and Amy Sparkes.

So, that’s me and my journey so far! One day I hope to have a picture book published. Until then I will keep writing, learning and querying! And on this platform, share with you some of the wonderful picture books already out there.
