On 1st January I wrote on my Facebook page,'2020 I'm coming to get you!' For someone who doesn't tempt fate, it was a bold statement and completely out of character. But, I felt confident and was happily writing picture books. I'd completed the Writing a Children's Picture Book Course with Curtis Brown Creative and am a proud member of the GEA. Then I had to go and spoil it all with a few fateful words!

On 27th January I ended up in A&E following a confrontation with two foxes, while walking the dogs. Then things just seemed to morph from the initial injury, to other complications and to where I am today; In lockdown with my orthopaedic appointment on hold.

BUT, there is good amongst it all. The writing community on Twitter continues to uplift me. I have a lovely critique group who have reached out. And although most days I don't feel well enough to write, I did manage to enter Vivian Kirkfield's #50 Precious Words Contest and it was the lifeline I needed. And now I/we have another great opportunity to tell a story in just 150 words!

#SpringFlingKidlit is open for submissions through until the 9th. I'll be posting my entry on my competitions page. I hope it makes you smile. I know that I'll get back to writing again, as and when. But I don't feel the pressure to rush and write the perfect picture book. I've learned a valuable lesson over the last few months. Patience!

And to anyone else out there struggling. Take the pressure off yourself. All good things come to those who wait. Stay safe.
